10 Male Personalities of 2017

The GQ Men of the Year Awards just happened, giving away prizes to personalities such as Zayn Malick, Cillian Murphy, Wolfgang Tillmans, Liam Gallagher, Jared Leto, Mark Hamill, and even Pelé. With that, I started to think about all the great performances, singers and personalities that made an impact on the year of 2017 and decided to make a list. Here are 10 inspiring male personalities of 2017.

10. Harris Dickinson

One of the year’s many surprises was the sophomore film by Eliza Hittman, Beach Rats. Premiered at Sundance this year, the film was not only a major success by portraying an emotional and sensual adventure of a boy trying to understand his sexuality and identity through the beaches of Brooklyn, but also Harris Dickson’s incredible performance, which is so natural and hypnotizing as the movie itself. Know more about the British 21-year-old actor on this exclusive interview for Vogue.

09. Josh O’Connor

Having one of the most incredible performances of 2017, Josh O’Connor is starting to receive major attention after the remarkable debut of Francis Lee, God’s Own Country. Already nominated for the British Independent Film Award for Best Actor, Connor is also forming an incredible body of work with titles such as The Riot Club, Bridgent and Peaky Blinders.

08. Nahuel Pérez Biscayart

People may have never heard of Nahuel Pérez Biscayart before, but he will definitely be remembered from now on after his powerful and moving performance in Robin Campillo’s 120 Beats Per Minute, which received the Grand Prix prize at Cannes Film Festival this year. Nahuel plays an HIV positive protestor in Paris during the 90s where the disease was little known to the public. His performance already received a nomination at the European Film Awards and he has great chances of winning.

07. Armie Hammer

Even though Armie Hammer has a pretty face, we can’t deny he is a great actor with an impressive filmography under his belt with titles such as David Fincher’s The Social Network, Clint Eastwood’s J.Edgar, Guy Ritchie’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E and Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals. This year, his latest achievement was the most talked about movie of the year, Call Me By Your Name, where he plays an American student who spends the summer on his teacher’s house in Italy and falls in love for a 17-year-old boy. Not only that, this year he has also been getting some attention for Free Fire and Final Portrait.

06. Taron Egerton

Another British personality to join the list, Taron Egerton is the star of the coolest movie of the year, Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Not only famous for his remarkable work as Eggsy, Egerton has been building ground worldwide with movies such as Eddie the Eagle, Sing, and the upcoming Robin Hood movie, where he is playing the leading role.

05. Bill Skarsgard

Being part of an extremely talented family formed by Stellan Skarsgard (The Girl With the Dragoon Tatto), Alexander Skarsgard (Big Little Lies) and Gustaf Skarsgard (Vikings), Bill Skarsgard was the most talked about actor of the year by portraying the notorious Pennywise clown on the Andrés Muschietti’s remake of It. Even though we can’t actually recognize Bill Skarsgard’s face on the film, his interpretation of the scariest clown in the world was incredible enough for his major breakthrough.

04. Fionn Whitehead

To act in a Christopher Nolan’s movie is probably every actor’s dream, and Fionn Whitehead was able to do that on his first movie ever. The 20-year-old British actor stars as Tommy, a soldier who like the other 20 thousand men on a beach, is trying to go home. This is the story of Nolan’s latest Dunkirk, one of the most exciting movies of the year and that portrays an outstanding selection of young actors, being Fionn one of them and probably the first of many other remarkable roles.

03. Charlie Hunnam

Charlie Hunnman is trying really hard to leave Sons of Anarchy behind to build a strong body of work to show his talent on the big screen, and 2017 was definitely a year where we saw that he is actually succeeding. He did not only played King Arthur in Guy Ritchie’s latest film, King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword, but he was also the intriguing Percy Fawcett on James Gray’s The Lost City of Z. His upcoming movie is a remake of the famous Papillon, where he is playing Steve McQueen’s character, along with Rami Malek.

02. Harry Styles

Harry Styles may be an ex One Directon member and you may not think much of him, but you can’t deny Styles has transformed himself in 2017 by releasing an outstanding solo record with classic rock’n roll references. He also appeared on Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk for the first time as an actor, proving that he is definitely used to having cameras in front of his face. I don’t know about you, but I feel that great things may come from Harry Styles in the upcoming years.

01. Timothée Chalament

I was very curious when I saw that the kid from one of my favorite tv shows, Homeland, appeared on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. He also ended up playing a beautiful performance on the independent drama Miss Stevens, which got my full attention. When I saw he was playing a 17-year-old boy who falls in love with a student on Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming movie Call Me By Your Name, I couldn’t be more excited. Now that I have seen the film, it’s impossible to deny that Timothée Chalament is probably the best actor of his generation. The movie is already being talked about in every festival of the world, and the way things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if I see Timothée receiving his first of many Oscar nominations.
